Cheap Eats

Every Wednesday, Guy Hagi and Augie T take you to another one of Hawaii's great "Cheap Eats" destinations. If you know of a place that offers great food at a reasonable price, let us know! Send your suggestions to CheapEats@kfve.com

  • Augie and Hagi head to Kapolei for some Filipino food at Juile Z's Restaurant. Our food explorers feast on a range of plates from breakfast favorites to Filipino specialities. Augie loved the silit, while Hagi feasted on luncheon.
  • The Tokyo Noodle House in Kapolei served up some great food for Cheap Eats. Augie and Hagi both had ramen sets with gyoza. They also tasted the hearty chicken katsu curry. Even though it's name is Japanese, they also have some Chinese favorites too.
  • Augie and Hagi bring their appetites to a Sand Island favorite that serves up breakfast and lunch favorites.
Tatsuo's is on Alahao Street just off Sand Island Access Road and they open early for all the workers in the area. Portions at Tatsuo's are very generous and will please even the most discerning palate.
  • The Cheap Eats crew checked out the Lunch Box restaurant's local favorites. Lunch Box is on Sand Island Access Road next to the West Marine store. Augie and Hagi tasted Lunch Box's signature garlic chicken along with a bunch of bentos. They both gave the spot two big thumbs up.
  • Augie and Hagi check out another lunch truck for Cheap Eats. The bright yellow Momo Burger truck is parked just off Ala Moana Boulevard on Tuesdays for the Takoako Tuesday Lunch Truck gathering. The luscious burgers are made from 100% grass fed Big Island beef and you'll notice the robust flavor. Augie tries out the burger with sauteed mushrooms, Hagi dives into the teriyaki burger with grilled onions.
  • Augie and Hagi find Cheap Eats at the Don Quijote Food Court near Ala Moana. The Curry features several different types of curry with the freshest ingredients.  Comedian Mel Cabang joins the boys as they taste curries from Vietnam, Thailand and India. The dishes come with a choice of white, brown or sticky rice, or rice noodle. The Curry is open seven days a week in the Don Quijote Food Court on Kaheka Street near Ala Moana.
  • In this episode of Cheap Eats Augie and Hagi head out west to Kapolei. Kajun Island is located on Kalaeloa on Roosevelt Avenue. The roadside wagon serves up Cajun favorites and our hungry heroes taste a few of their specialities. The menu features spicy chicken drumsticks, cajun spiced shrimp, even cajun hamburger sliders and they'll cater events too.
  • This week's Cheap Eats takes viewers to Kapolei for a taste of Kauai. Brick Oven Pizza started in 1977 on Kauai and quickly became an island favorite. Their newest location is in Kapolei next to Simply Organized. Augie and Hagi's table spread included a few of the restaurant's specialities like the Ultimeat Pizza loaded with a variety of tasty toppings. They also tried a chicken wing sampler tray with different sauces from mild to spicy.
  • Our intrepid crew tasted classic Chinese favorites like Minute Chicken with cake noodle as well as some specialities like crispy shrimp balls and volcano beef. They also tasted a trio of lobster specials and were told of special Cheap Eats discounts offered viewers. Mini Garden also has take out, and for a limited time they are offering a 20% discount on all take out orders.
  • On this episode of CHEAP EATS, Augie and Hagi go back to Augie's old Kalihi Kai neighborhood. Alicia's Market on the corner of Homerule and Mokauea Streets serves up tasty local favorites that are budget friendly. Alicia's has traditional roast Chinese meats like pork, duck and chicken as well as Hawaiian food like laulau, dried fish and poke. Drop by for a visit but remember it's all take out, there are no seats, unless you wanna sit on the curb like Augie and Hagi do.
  • Augie and Hagi head to the University area for Cheap Eats at Kit N Kitchen.
Kit N Kitchen is a cool little restaurant where East meets West. French favorites with an Asian twist are served for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • There's a new gem on the campus of the University of Hawaii Manoa. It's open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an all-you-can eat buffet for under $10.
  • There's an incredible eating spot in the Kalihi Industrial area with a menu that says island style all the way.
  • This week Augie and Hagi along with their special guest, Cat Toth, go to one Hawaii's favorite eating establishments that's been around for the past 50 years.
