The final month of the Warrior football season begins this weekend. It starts with a road swing to Houston, Texas.
Most people in Hawaii like rice. But Hawaii head coach June Jones does not. The Rice Owls we're talking about, a team that's been a thorn in the side of his Warrior football team. This weekend the Warriors are looking for payback against the Owls in their WAC finale.
In three all-time meetings with Rice the Warriors are 0-3, all in the past three seasons. Doing the math, that means Hawaii's seniors have never beaten Rice and they want to end that skid. Getting that done won't be easy. Rice comes in as sixth best rushing team in the country. They love the option, which means the Warrior defense needs to adjust.
The Warriors hit that game off a bye week giving the guys in green more time to work on stopping the Rice option that always seems to give them fits. And a challenge also for head coach June Jones, who is fully aware that his team is 0-3 against the Owls.
It's a game that will have it all. The high flying aerial attack of Hawaii versus the slow, methodic ground game of Rice. Kick off is set for 10:00 in the morning this Saturday. And you can join Jim Leahey and Dick Tomey live on K5 The Home Team.
