(Honolulu-AP) -- The University of Hawaii men's basketball team kicked off the season last night with an 81-65 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock in the first round of the Hawaiian Airlines Tip-Off Tournament. Haim Shimonovich scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Warriors, who will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in tomorrow's championship game.
Shimonovich scored 15 of his points in the first half to give the Warriors a 44-28 lead at the midway mark. Newcomer Michael Kuebler also added to Hawaii's scoring punch over the first 20 minutes with 14 points, including three 3-pointers.
Carl English got ten points in the second half to finish with 15. Kuebler ended with 17. Nick Zachery, the Trojans' top scorer last season, finished with only two points on 1-10 shooting. As a team, they went 3-15 from long distance.
