(Honolulu-AP) -- Tony Akpan scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Haim Shimonovich added 20 points and nine boards Friday night as Hawaii defeated Bradley 90-69 in the opening round of the Rainbow Classic. Akpan, who entered the game averaging five points, hit on 11-13 shots to power the Rainbow Warriors to their second highest offensive output of the season.
Carl English added 19 points for the winners with 10 coming over the final six minutes. For the Braves (2-7), who have lost five straight, James Gillingham had 22 points.
Danny Granger was helped off the court early in the second half after suffering a low-grade concussion, but returned to finish with 19 points. Hawaii improved to 5-1. Tennessee Tech defeated Alcorn State 62-50 in the first game.
