(Honolulu-AP) -- Carl English scored 19 points and Michael Kuebler added 17 last night to lead the University of Hawaii to a 72-55 basketball victory over Southern Methodist. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

In losing their seventh consecutive road game this season, the Mustangs fell to 5-7 and 0-2. Hawaii jumped off to an early lead and never looked back, with English, the WAC's second-leading scorer, and Kuebler sparking the offense.

In the first half, English had 15 points and Kuebler 13 as Hawaii opened a 12-point lead before settling to a 40-31 halftime advantage. The Mustangs could get no closer than eight points in the second half.

For SMU, Quinton Ross, the conference's leading scorer, was held to 16 points.
