Shanghai Sweeps Warriors In Invitational

(Honolulu-AP) -- Shanghai Oriental proved to be too much for three nationally ranked men's volleyball teams during the Outrigger Invitational.

The team from China swept No. 1, Hawaii, No. 4, Penn State, and No. 7, Ball State during the three-day, round-robin tournament.

Shanghai Oriental's final victim was host Hawaii, which fell 30-27, 30-19, 30-27 Saturday night after winning its first two tournament matches. The loss didn't count against the Warriors, who remain 4-0 on the season.

Tang Miao led Shanghai Oriental with 19 kills, Shen Qiong had 16, and Wang Zhiteng added 11.

Tony Ching had 11 kills and Costas Theocharidis added ten for Hawaii.

Before the match, the Warriors' 2002 NCAA championship banner was unveiled at the Stan Sheriff Center.
