Hawaii Hangs On To Defeat Stanford

(Honolulu-AP) -- The top-ranked University of Hawaii men's volleyball tea opened Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play last night with a 30-28, 30-27, 27-30, 30-28 victory over Number Eleven Stanford.

Costas Theocharidis had 26 kills, while teammate Tony Ching had 20 kills and 12 digs for the Warriors. Hawaii was down 27-22 in the second game when Ching led a comeback of eight unanswered points for the win. Curt Toppel had 25 kills for Stanford.

Hawaii improved to 5-0 overall. Stanford dropped to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.

Hawaii hosts the Cardinal again Friday night.
