(Kent, Ohio-AP) -- The University of Hawaii held off Kent State 79-78 in men's basketball action Saturday night in Ohio.
It was Hawaii's first regular season win in the Eastern Time Zone since a 1972 victory over Connecticut.
Carl English led Hawaii with 22 points and Michael Kuebler hit some key shots down the stretch to secure the victory for the Rainbow Warriors.
Kuebler gave Hawaii its biggest lead, 75-67 with 23 seconds remaining, on a breakaway layup.
Eric Haut and Matt Jakeway combined for three 3-pointers in the final 19 seconds, nearly giving Kent State an improbable comeback.
