Students & Dog Daze

Various thoughts as we move out of the doldrums of September and October and into the cooler autumn season, post-recession, apparently, where sports lovers see football and wahine volleyball meet basketball…

Speaking of doldrums, members of the state senate are having sessions to decide if the legislature should get back together for a special session. Now there’s government in action, or should I say government inaction (all one word). If kids being out of public school even more than our normal dismal time allotments is not cause for alarm (after all, kids don’t vote), then perhaps it is time to let the kids run the legislature in their spare time. And those worried about canines invading student privacy rights by nosing around on campus might not have to worry- at the rate we’re going, there won’t be kids on campus a lot of days, so no need for sniffing pooches.

On a lighter topic, when asked, “when is probably the worst time to visit Hawaii based on the weather?”, the local response is usually January or February, for fear of numerous rainy days. But after yet another incredibly humid September and October, I’m thinking a little blessing from the skies in the winter is better than those dog days of summer we just went through. Warm sprinkles can truly be a blessing, but as for those dulling 92-degree, no-wind days, a lot of our guests can probably get that experience by staying home in the summertime. Think about it…
