(Honolulu-AP) -- Pepperdine defeated the University of Hawaii last night in their first meeting since the Warriors beat the Waves in last season's championship match of the NCAA men's volleyball tournament. Pepperdine, ranked Number One in this week's USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 Poll, lost the first game 24-30 before downing second-ranked Hawaii 30-28, 30-26, 30-28.
Fred Winters led Pepperdine with 24 kills as the Waves improved to 12-1 on the season and 10-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Costas Theocharidis had 25 kills and Delano Thomas added 15 for the Warriors, who dropped to 10-4 and 6-4. The teams are set to play each other again Friday night.
