It’s That Time

It's that special time of the year, a time for reflection and hopefully some relaxation amidst the mad holiday rush. It is also a somber time for people who have suffered personal losses and for people suffering financial hardships and uncertainty.

For most people, the mere presence of family and/or friends is far more important than the cookies, the cards, the gift certificates or the fruitcake. Perhaps not since the Christmas season of 2001, after the then-recent horrors of 9/11 changed our world forever, have people felt so uncertain about what's next. But while we cannot control the economy or housing prices or the cost of living, we can control how we respond to things out of our control, to make sure that our emotions and actions don't cause us to get out of control.

It is often the time spent with those we care most about and who care most about us, surrounded by love and friendship, more so than gifts and gadgets, that gives us that sense of being centered, of being present, of being important and valuable. Find the time to find the people that make you feel that way, and enjoy your holiday season. Hawaii is a special place all the time, but even more so around the holidays with people to hug. You've earned it; they've earned it. Think about it…
