Month Of Coverage

Two weeks of beauty shots and smiling faces; that's not a bad way to finish out the year and the decade. And that's what mainland TV viewers saw time and time again between December 22 and last weekend as sports and news channels focused on the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl football game, the Hawaiian Airlines Diamondhead Classic basketball tournament, and a holiday vacation here by President Obama and his family.

In these times, where every little bit helps, the incredible publicity we get with these vistas helps to ensure or even remind potential visitors that Hawaii is lovely, friendly, within reach, and- with a little bit of research on-line- relatively affordable these days. And with golf season in Hawaii beginning this week with the SBS Championship on Maui, followed by the Sony Open on Oahu next week, our islands will be showcased once again to millions who are bundled up at homes across the mainland.

Admittedly, some brighter economic news and some sense of security for jobs and finances would make that spontaneous trip to Hawaii a greater possibility, but even for longer-term planning (like next fall or winter), this month of Hawaii in the limelight via free advertising can only bode well toward helping us in our own efforts toward economic recovery. This nationwide coverage from many local venues is one stimulus plan that we can all agree is a good deal. Think about it…
