Merrie-ment - KFVE, K5-Hawaii News Now, Local Programming

The incredible "Merrie Monarch Festival" is here, and the proud team of Hawaii News Now is covering events on the Big Island this week like never before. A special focus over the past month for KFVE and its sister stations has been to explore many aspects of the Big Island including, but not limited to the Festival and Hilo proper- local businesses, culture, human interest stories, the overall economy, and the environment- to name just a few.

Unfortunately, simple logistics and costs make it difficult for Honolulu media to focus a lot of time on Neighbor Island events and long-term issues on a regular basis. This is a reason, not an excuse, for the sometimes correctly perceived notion that people on Oahu are a bit myopic in some of their viewpoints and lack of understanding based on their limited access to people, unique items, and bubbling-under-the-surface topics that exist off of Oahu.

The commitment of KFVE in airing and streaming the "Merrie Monarch Festival" this week, the great expense and commitment of Hawaii News Now in producing numerous stories from the Big Island over the past few weeks and in going live all morning, every morning this week from 4:30-9am plus numerous night time features shows that we do take our responsibility and this opportunity very seriously. We look forward to expanding even more in the years to come. Think about it…
