Health Starts At Home

There are lots of people clamoring about health care and the new law and what it might or might not mean. Most of the people in the general population with opinions, both locally and elsewhere, speak anecdotally, since they really have no clue about the details of the mammoth document that is now law.

But one thing is for certain, a major answer to the health problem in Hawaii and elsewhere is for people to simply start acting in a more healthy manner. I know, it's a lot easier to talk about this stuff than it is to actually change habits, but with our unhealthy statistics here related to obesity and diabetes and a few other unsavory ailments, it makes sense for people to really focus on themselves- something they hopefully can control- and not some ambiguous, far-reaching health care system over which they have no control. After all, the better shape you're in, the less you need to depend on health care.

Walk more, swim more, eat less, stop smoking, plan meals in advance to help alleviate the impulsive quick, easy, and usually fattening meal options. Work with family and friends together so you are not in this alone. Change your habits. There are lots of things you can do to help solve the health care crisis in this state and in this country. And it really does start with you. Think about it…
