Voting Rites

With under three weeks left in the primary season, and with all of the candidates desirous of your vote, now is the time to do some quick calculation. Call it Voting 101. Make a list of those values and items which are most important to you, your hot buttons, the things that really matter to you when you step into the voting booth.

Now make sure to spend a little time to find out where the candidates stand on those issues- through their words, through their brochures, their ads, or their websites; doing so in advance will most certainly make your choices a bit easier come September 18. Don't rely on just your gut or your friend or your boss or a special interest group, take the time to assess the core issues of greatest ramification to you, your family, and your community and then feel confident in your choice.

My guess is that a lot of people go into the voting booth with a vague sense of obligation, and then stand there and look at a laundry list of people that they really don't know much about. You don't really want to be flustered and simply give up your vote so easily, do you? After all, if you value your hard-earned money, you don't order steak at a pricy restaurant unless you are at least familiar with it. Get a taste of what matters to you, and who offers it, and then you can stride into that booth later this month with pride and purpose. Think about it…
