Big Time Little League

Another Waipio Little League team did our state proud last week in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The recent run of successful Hawaii teams in this sport and age group is incredible, but it shouldn't come as a complete surprise. After all, the network of support for our keiki in organized sports is perhaps unsurpassed just about anywhere else, and the calm displayed by these kids and their coaches throughout the trials and tribulations in front of bright lights, thousands of fans, and really big TV cameras showed solid island style demeanor- cool and focused.

People often talk about the so-called "aloha" lifestyle, and it's one of the vital attributes that makes these islands stand apart from many other destinations for visitors. So when we have a chance to share that spirit- even through our youngest ambassadors- it reflects well on everybody here.

From the Sugar Bowl to NCAA volleyball tournaments to Little League to soccer and golf events, Hawaii's sporting participants and their travelling fans are considered a class act, and that's a nice nod these days where too often manners take a back seat to uncontrolled emotions and embarrassing outbursts. Nice job kids, in more ways than perhaps you can realize at the tender age of 12. Think about it…
