Three Players With Hawaii Ties Selected In MLB Draft

(Undated-AP) -- Three baseball players with Hawaii ties were selected in the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday. The Baltimore Orioles took two University of Hawaii players, selecting left-handed pitcher Justin Azze in the seventh round and catcher Brian Book in the 14th round. The Kansas City Royals went for a younger player, taking Kamehameha Schools shortstop Keoni Ruth in the 17th round. Also going in the 17th round was pitcher Jeffrey Pry, a Hawaii recruit from Portland, Oregon, who was selected by Cleveland. Former Iolani School standout Kainoa Obrey of Brigham Young was taken in the 14th round by Saint Louis, while Lewis and Clark State's Micah Furtado -- a product of Kapaa High School -- was selected in the 20th round by Texas.
