Ichiban means number one, but at this Pearl City eating establishment, number one means IchiBen. Located in the Times Square Shopping Center, is a tiny place with a diverse menu that packs em in.
Here you'll find great noodle dishes, like their "Ichi-men" with a broth that's been slow simmered for 10 hours or their yakisoba that's loaded with shrimp, chicken and char siu. The assorted fried rice is piled high, like the chef's special, kim chee fried rice with lup cheong, a definite winner. And for meat-lovers the "Ichi-Grill" is a mixed-plate that includes kal-bi and bbq chicken for only $9.95. In fact, most of the menu items at IchiBen are under ten bucks, but it's the tasty food that keeps folks coming back.
"They have their own seasoning here that's very tasty, I just had some," says patron.
"So it's special?" asks Russ.
"They're homemade special. All the homemade ingredients, you can't beat that!"
"And of course Lyle, one of the specialties down here would be their selection of curries. They got beef curry, spam katsu curry, and this is their sweet chicken katsu curry," says Russ.
"That sounds good, and I'm trying their char siu fried rice. Look at all this rice for under eight bucks. If you're on the Pearl City side, go down to Times Square Shopping Center and check out IchiBen, and bring your appetite with you!
