Honolulu City Council chairman Todd Apo will resign in two months to take a job in public affairs for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts out at Ko Olina. The assignment makes sense on a number of fronts. Apo understands the intricate workings of government, he currently represents the leeward area, and, being a City Council member, one might argue that he knows what it takes to work in a Mickey Mouse arena.

As a part-time basketball referee, Apo has also undoubtedly developed some thick skin, which will help him in his Disney dealings with Dumbo, not to mention his former political cohorts. And as part of the ever-changing landscape of who's on what committee that has plagued the musical chairs Council over the years, Apo knows what's it's like when things get a bit Goofy.

So after six years on the Council, off Apo goes to Adventureland with the Disney corporation, leaving behind a dwindling Council in Fantasyland that will be without four other departing members and might soon be circling Pluto looking for credible new blood. For Mr. Apo, he hopes it will be a Cinderella story as he skips off to his new address, happily singing "hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go". At Disney, he gets to deal with the world of "The Lion King"; sure beats the political beat, where too often you have to figure out if you're dealing with "the lying kings".  Think about it…
