It's time to rethink the notion of red velvet on this week's Cheap Eats. (Think pancakes!) This week the guys head over to Kailua to a longstanding restaurant that's become a must for people passing through. Cinnamon's Restaurant opened its doors in March 1985… and they've been packing ‘um in ever since. Russ and Lyle were told, without a doubt, if you're coming to Kailua you gotta go to Cinnamon's!
According to Russ, the most suggested dish, by viewers, is the red velvet pancakes. "…red velvet pancakes, very popular down here at Cinnamon's with white chocolate sauce on top…" says Russ. So if you've yet to try them, know that the dish comes highly recommended by veteran Cinnamon's visitors. If you're not in the mood for sweet (gasp!) check out the crab cake eggs benedict with their world famous hollandaise sauce.
Cinnamon's has both indoor and outdoor seating. If you opt for outdoor no worries, the tables come equipped with large red umbrellas. They provide ample shade for putting away a number of their tasty dishes from the curry chicken salad to their cashew chicken sandwich. Their kitchen cranks out breakfast as well as sandwiches, burgers and lunch entrees.
"We're here with Marie Camvel from Kaneohe. Marie comes here maybe once a month" says Lyle, "Marie, tell me about the food here."
"Delicious! Very delicious, ono!" says Marie
"What's your favorite?"
"My favorite? Everything. The whole menu, it's hard to choose cause everything is so good."
If you tuned in last week, you'll remember Russ finished the episode with a vegetarian dish. This week he's back to his old tricks with an order of the Roast Beef and gravy. Lyle decides on the Chinese omlette with char siu, roast chicken and Chinese vegetables. The next time you're in Kailua be sure to check out the fan-favorite Cinammon's Restaurant, this week's Cheap Eats!
