If you're ono for a plate lunch that's been kicked up a notch, this week's Cheap Eats has got the goods. The boys are back in Kalihi at a place called Koi Catering & Takeout. Koi is a tiny place on Dillingham near Puuhale Road. For three and a half years they've been cranking out great food at a great price and they've developed quite a following.
If you have a hard time deciding what to order, the Koi bento is the one for you. The bento has garlic chicken, garlic ahi and grilled steak all piled into one plate. If you're looking for something handheld check out their french dip sandwich with au jus and french fries.
Don't forget to stop by for dinner; the miso butterfish plate and honey mustard chicken salad with bacon-wrapped asparagus are just a couple of the items on the dinner menu and most of the items are in the seven and eight dollar range. That's cheap eats!
"What do we order?" Lyle asks one of the patrons.
"Mahi pesto, the blackened ahi, garlic ahi, and the Portobello… I think it's called the Portobello chicken…" she replies.
"So that's about half the menu…"
"No… three-quarters!" (laughs)
Russ decides on the fillet of sole with shitake mushroom stuffing and Lyle goes with the steak plate with garlic ginger sauce. You can't go wrong at this Kalihi eatery, Koi Catering & Takeout, this week's Cheap Eats!
