HONOLULU (KFVE) - are you craving some down home Italian dishes? Then Bella Mia is the place for you! Chef Joey Gonzales brings his family restaurant know-how to Kaimuki all the way from New York City. Russell visits with him in the kitchen.
"We're in the Bella Mia kitchen with Joey, good Italian name but the last name? Not so much…" Russ teases.
"Gon-ZA-les," Joey retorts.
"It's all how you say it," Russ replies.
Joey proceeds to quickly pound out some dough.
Together Joey and Russ make a massive Stromboli, stuffed with cheese, meat and vegetables, a customer favorite at Bella Mia.
"This is one of the customer favorites. It's big, delicious and they can share it!" says Joey.
The décor helps the restaurant the authentic Italian feel as well as mainstay dishes like the hand-rolled, hand-made, oven baked pizza, lasagna and spaghetti & meatballs.
With Dean Martin on the speakers, Russell decides to try the meatball parmesan and Lyle has the shrimp scampi over a bed of linguini. There are lots to choose from when dining at this Kaimuki eatery and be sure to bring your appetite when you do! The portions are huge! Good eating at Bella Mia, this week's Cheap Eats!
