Christmas ‘Bows

The UH football team has had a magical season thus far. With prognostications of a low finish in the WAC by media pundits and conference coaches just four months ago, and earlier predictions about a porous offensive line and defensive question marks, this team has showed that heart and hard work can overcome poor predictions. This season's squad is a textbook example of what happens when a group of people come together as one to overcome issues and overachieve outsider expectations.

But the work is not done yet. Season-ending games the last three years have been fiascos, with Hawaii getting outscored by Georgia, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin by a numbing 100 total points combined, 141-41. Yes, getting to bowl games and playing regular season-ending games against name foes is a great reward and a challenge, but at some point in a program's development, you have to beat teams from BCS conferences and in bowl games. Bowl and ‘Bow foe Tulsa presents a formidable opponent as it has beaten a resurgent Notre Dame squad this year and, like Hawaii, can score points in bunches, and quickly.

The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl will be the last taste of the 2010 season for UH, and will also be the first memory everyone will have heading into spring practice and fall camp in 2011. The UH coaches have already made it very clear that being WAC co-champs with Nevada and Boise State is nice, but there is unfinished business ahead. Let's hope that this is the year our football Warriors celebrate the new year without a holiday hangover from their last game. Think about it…
