In Hot Water

We'll know this week just how quickly the government will install back-up water heating systems at Mayor Wright Homes. But the fact that this situation has been going on- and therefore ignored- for years is reprehensible. Between the lack of indignation and the slow-as-molasses procurement process, the people at the housing complex have literally had cold water thrown on their face for far too long as they've been given a cold shoulder by people who are supposed to know better, and maybe even care.

We know funds are tight all over and have been that way for some time now, but upon hearing this saga year after year, shouldn't something have been done before now? We know the system is old and probably needed replacing before it fell into apparent complete disrepair, but was anyone in officialdom really listening to the cry for this basic human need? Would this have been allowed to happen at housing in Waikiki or Lahaina?

Nobody likes to find themselves in hot water, except in this case, where the patient patrons of Mayor Wright housing would gladly like to find themselves in hot water after washing in the cold for years. Let's hope nothing holds this process up, bureaucratically, electrically, or politically. It's time for this problem to become water under the bridge for current and future residents. Think about it…
