HONOLULU (KFVE) -- This week, Cheap Eats is back in town at I Love Country Cafe, a place with great food, at great prices that is great for you. It's been a favorite for years and years, you might recall I Love Country's last locale near Ala Moana. Now on Queen Street, the address may be different, but the eats are as good as ever.
I Love Country is well known for their healthy meals like their Turkey Cobb Salad with corn, avocado, tomatoes, egg, and bacon all over a big bed of lettuce. Another dish of note is the kiawe steak wrap with some french fries.
"I had the furikake covered mahimahi with brown rice and stir-fried vegetables. It's really, really good," says Snooky Fujikawa,a trainer at Mono E Mono Boxing. "Even from the days of body building in the past, this has been known as a good healthy place for us to eat. You can find a lot of things that's gonna make it easy to fit in your diet. It's very good here."
And while country may be a favorite for healthy eats, it's also a great stop for the classic plate lunch. When you come down to "I Love Country", one of the first things you'll see is the grill, right out in front, where they cook their own steaks and smoke their own bacon.
Russ and Lyle decide on healthy dishes, chicken stir-fry with brown rice and the Mahimahi Furikake over asian stir-fried vegetables with brown rice. But they balance it with the sinful bananas foster stuffed french toast and the strawberries and whipped cream covered waffles. All this and more at I Love Country Cafe this week's Cheap Eats.
