Think About It: Victorious Victorino

Shane Victorino is really a class act. He plays the game hard and with great delight, and he has never forgotten where he came from. He's always willing to answer a question, do a phone interview, help out in charitable events, and remind people that he knows his roots.

What was his latest classy move was showing up in the 110-degree heat of Arizona to attend the all-Star game last week, a game for which he was chosen by the voting baseball fans, but a game in which he could not participate due to a hand injury. Now a lot of bunch of guys who had injuries or pitched last weekend opted not to go down to Arizona. Fair enough, some probably needed to recharge their batteries or get proper medical treatment, but the mere fact that Victorino pro-actively chose to acknowledge the voting masses and his fellow teammates by being at the Phoenix event speaks worlds about the character of this St. Anthony's graduate.

In a day and age where people are all too often famous for the wrong things or sometimes just famous for doing nothing in particular, but making a lot of noise about it, it's refreshing to see people like Shane Victorino doing the right thing just because it's the right thing- without fanfare, without a book deal, without a DUI, without a Kardashian mention, without a Facebook shout out, without even tweeting that he just ate a chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette. I hope the guy stays healthy, happily plays for10-more years and gets everything good he deserves from baseball and from life. Think about it…
