I was sitting in traffic the other day (ah yes, the old back-to-school mambo) and noticed a brand new car that had the temporary license plate. The only trouble was that the date on the plate was 9/31/11. You see, September only has 30 days, so this car has a date that simply doesn't exist in our current understanding of time. And I thought to myself- wouldn't it be cool if we could determine time, and not be constricted by the mandates of the universe as we know it.
And then someone honked and I moved six-inches closer to my destination. But, as the Rolling Stones once beautifully lamented: "time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me." Only you can determine your control over time, or its control over you. Only you can determine how much time you want to spend in the various areas of your life- recreation, personal, business, etc. When someone says "I didn't have time", what that means in reality is that everything that they had to do or chose to do precluded them from dealing with whatever it is you were asking for or expecting.
The bottom line is, we're all busy, we're all rushing, we're all caught in traffic, or have too many e-mails to deal with, or have to rush to pick up the kids from soccer practice or have to get off one more tweet. Don't let time get away from you without truly spending some real quality time where you want to spend it. Because some day, you really won't have any more time, and you'll wonder where it all went. And no one ever lay on his or her death and said, "darn, I wish I'd have spent more time in the office". Think about it…
