HONOLULU (KFVE) -- Augie and Guy are back in Chinatown again and this time they're doing things a bit different. Instead of looking for cheap eats that are already prepared, they'll be looking do-it-yourself cheap eats. Augie will be hunting for items that can only be found in Chinatown. And Guy will be on the hunt for exotic produce to makes for some tasty ethnic dishes.
Talk about diversity, one look at the produce stand will reveal a number of cultures across Hawaii. A lot of great items like the Filipino longbean, Japanese nasubi, or eggplant, which the French call aubergine, and the Filipinos call talong, and a Chinese leafy vegetable, ong choy.
Another great thing about shoppping in Chinatown is the prices. They are a lot cheaper than your local market and there are many exotic items to choose from, like giant bullfrogs and chicken talons, known as adidas in Filipino.
Chinatown also features great seafood, everything from Tilapia to fish from all around the world and even Boston and Maine lobster. To top it off, Augie requests a pig's head and it's HUGE.
Augie and Guy had a wonderful experience in Chinatown. That's how they do it down in Chinatown, a lot of ethnic diversity, this week's Cheap Eats.
