The best (or worst) reality show of late has been the debacle at UH regarding the athletics director situation and the investigation of the non-Stevie Wonder concert. Rather than simply speculate about who did what when, I thought I might put things in context through some Stevie Wonder song titles, and since Mr. Wonder is obviously not going to be serenading us soon, this will have to do for now.
"Signed, Sealed, Delivered"- well, we know that certainly wasn't the case in this event on many levels. Smart people tried to be entrepreneurial to help UH. It didn't work out. "I Wish"- yes, I wish and we all wish this thing hadn't occurred, but it left an opening for obfuscation as a good man, Jim Donovan, was moved aside. "Master Blaster"- the barbs have been coming in droves, deservingly so, from the media, fans, supporters, legislators, and Hawaii taxpayers- that would be just about everyone who cares or lives here.
"Uptight (Everything's Alright)"- lots of angst and uncertainty in many uptight people in top positions of power trying to figure out what to do or how to avoid doing things. It's also tough to do a top job when outside influencers have too much say. "You Haven't Done Nothing"- that's what they finally told Jim Donovan about the Wonder blunder, but please step aside anyway. "Don't You Worry About A Thing"- that's what they're telling us now- new AD to be hired, new controls in place, everything will be just fine; yeh, but the same old system and backroom politics. As Stevie would have say- "very superstitious, writings on the wall". Think about it…
