Think About It: Clogged Arteries

We have only some many ways to get from here to there on most of our islands. So when we suffer from clogged arteries, we don't have lot of options in many instances. The windward side is now blessed with four ways to get to and from town- H-3, Likelike, the Pali, and around the back way through Waimanalo. But try to get to the North Shore from the windward side- you've only got one reasonable choice.

Likewise, there really were not and are not a lot of solutions to be had when the Department of Transportation closed the Karsten Thot Bridge and severely impacted the commuting times of central Oahu and North Shore residents. And while opening up one lane in the AM traffic hours has eased the pain, it will also lengthen amount of time this repair project will take. Leeward side residents of Oahu understand the pain, as any time there is a fender bender between Makakilo and Kaena Point, folks get stranded- sometimes for hours- as there is no plan B. Calls to have a roadway go up toward the Waianae range and then come back down a few miles later are just a dream right now.

Lucky you live Hawaii, because, for the most part, frustrated drivers, school administrators, military personnel, and the like have thus far been grinning and bearing the long rides each day in Wahiawa. No major road rage, just a frustrated understanding that when there are no alternative routes, thus it is what it is. Entities like Dole Plantation and Schofield Barracks have adjusted activities and events to help ease the congestion and frustration. As the proverb says, this too shall pass, and someday, soon, hopefully drivers will be able to pass. Think about it…
