HANAPEPE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Crews from the Kauai Fire Department were able to contain a large brushfire burning in a cane field in an area between Hanapepe and Kaumakani on Kauai by about 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Kauai officials say the fire was first reported at approximately 4:30 p.m., and had grown to around five acres in size in just more than an hour.

Kaumualii Highway was shutdown in both directions in the area near where the fire is taking place at one point on Monday. Traffic in both directions was reopened at approximately 7:00 p.m.

No structures were damaged during the fire, and the cause of the blaze is not yet known.

We will have more on the fire as information becomes available.
