Think About It: Pool Fool

Some moron really messed things up over the New Year's holiday. Apparently someone or a consortium of idiots thought it would be fun to damage a chair lift at a Waimea, Kauai public swimming pool. And it wasn't like these feeble-minded individuals just dinged the chair up a bit. They took the time and made the macho effort to rip the chair off of its platform and dump it into the pool. One can only hope they slipped a disc or developed a hernia in the process.

Hopefully, the chair and lift can be repaired or replaced for the people who use it and need it. And hopefully, someone will have the intestinal fortitude to come forward and tell the authorities what persons did the deed. Maybe the gee-let's-go-rip-up-the-handicap-chair-for-a-fun-New-Year's-prank participants will turn themselves in as their brains evolve. When people trash property anonymously as a prank or a result of a bad childhood or a bad day on Twitter, you really have to wonder where their heads are at. Perhaps their heads should be held under water at the Kauai pool for awhile…

Time and again we hear of vandals entering schools and smashing equipment, flooding rooms, or putting their graffiti up for all to see (as if we care). Years of community service and fines might be a good start, but someone didn't take the time early on to teach these misfits wrong from right. And this was not a crime committed in passing. Someone went out of their way to dismantle this needed chairlift. I hope they are caught; I hope they pay dearly; and I hope there is a lesson to be learned somewhere in this useless tale. If you want to help out monetarily, contact the Kaui Department of Parks and Recreation. Think about it…
