The Kauai Police Department will be shutting down Haleko Road, between Nawiliwili Road and Rice Street, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for roughly an hour.
The road closure is a safety precaution while the smoke stack at the old Lihu'e Sugar Mill is brought down as part of the Lihue Sugar Mill decommissioning project.
Traffic on Haleko Road will be limited to surrounding residents and businesses only. All other motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area.
The smoke stack is scheduled to be removed at 2:30 p.m. or shortly thereafter and will take roughly 30 minutes. Police will reopen Haleko Road upon successful completion of the project.
