Composed to honor
Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole, the kind-hearted nephew of Queen Liliʻuokalani, this
song acknowledges his many character traits and the contributions he made
during his short lifetime. Kalanianaʻole was born in Kōloa and his lineage
descends directly from Kaumualiʻi, Kauaʻi's last king. Among the many
congressional acts promoted by this Prince was the Hawaiian Homestead Act which
made lands available for Hawaiians.
