The kumu of this
hālau composed this mele to feature a favorite flower, the lehua mamo blossom.
Written specifically for Hālau I Ka Wēkiu's first graduating class, it weaves
together imagery honoring the journey and the student-teacher relationship. The
brilliant yellow flower symbolizes not only the students, but hula itself. It
is an art form we cannot live without, as hula is a part of our being, part of
who we are as practitioners.
