Think About It: UH Booster Rocket

The University of Hawaii Athletics Department has come forward with a bold plan, a "Game Plan" if you will. The reality of our current times is that the college sports universe is morphing very quickly into a group of haves and have-nots, or those who will be left behind. If we truly believe we have something special here to share with our sense of pride and passion within the aloha spirit, then the next three to five years will be pivotal for UH's athletic dream.

Whether or not UH can accomplish a goal of moving into a Pac-12 or a Pac-16 or another of the "have" conferences will be determined, in large part, by the fans, the boosters, the businesses, and the legislature. Upper campus has recently played its hand by forgiving debt, providing scholarship money, and providing sensible solutions to problems like merchandise ownership rights. Now, it's time for others to help boost the coffers, as the goal is to move UH's $32-million athletic budget to a $40-million total within five-years.

Whether it's through endowments or naming rights on athletic facilities, now more than ever UH needs to know that the love people talk about so often when referring to their Warriors and Wahine can be shown through cash donations. Sure, winning helps, but nobody wins all the time, and if we want to compete with the haves, we need to boost facilities, recruiting, and infra-structure to ensure we get the best players and the best coaches. So now is the time to step it up, or run the risk of being left behind in demoralizing fashion. How will we do? How much do we care? And how much can we give? Think about it…
