I had the pleasure of seeing John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame in concert here last Friday, so in honor of CCR, I thought it might be fun to tie a few of Creedence's hits to local news items of note.
"Down On The Corner"- we have plenty of people down on the corner, and the side streets, the canals, and in the parks, and we seem to be inching toward some possible longer term solutions for the homeless. But where is the necessary affordable housing? How about a public-private partnership to create units?
"Up Around the Bend"- that's where we kept hearing the solution would come from for the troubled Hawaii Health Connector, month after month. $130-million later, we give up, and the Feds will take over. Just another example of your government dollars not at work.
"Have You Ever Seen The Rain?"- the dry months of summer may cause us to ask that question, so now is a good time to start thinking twice about water usage and perhaps incorporate simple methods of saving water- like turning off the sink when you brush your teeth and putting a bucket in the shower for 10-seconds when you turn it on to save the cold water for your plants. And be on the lookout for moron arsonists who annually seem to find thrills in torching a leeward berm or two.
"Fortunate Son"- that's all of us lucky enough to see the rare big-time concert here, like John Fogerty, and then walk outside and realize that we live in a unique and normally wonderful place that provides a quality of life unlike almost anywhere else. Fortunate indeed. Think about it…
