Think About It: Wheels of Change... Not

Looks like we're finally going to see some action and resolution on the Waikiki Natatorium. Well, not exactly. After 35-years of discussion, estimates on repairs, and suggestions on how best to utilize the area, it now seems that we're going to have- you guessed it- another study done on the project. And this one's going to take 18-months. It appears as if they have to count every grain of sand in the area or something like that.

Yes, the wheels of change move slowly here, especially if they're stuck or deteriorating. So now we'll have an environmental impact study, and by 2017, we can have more debate, protest, consultants, options, and the inevitable legal threats, as more time passes, allowing this historic entity to continue to crumble, widen holes in the concrete and expose rusty re-bar.

Not to be outdone, the City Council last week deferred taking new steps to clarify what's going to happen regarding the on-going bed & breakfast boondoggle as apparently we need more clarity on exactly how many of these short-term vacation rental units there might be on Oahu. You might have thought that the counting issue would have been resolved or calculated by now, as this debate has been going on for 20+ years. Yet, B & Bs are just an infant compared to the normal nattering that goes on about the Natatorium year after year. Maybe our officials should be forced to sit atop the Haiku Stairway to Heaven until they resolve some of these never-ending issues. Oh wait, that's supposedly been closed for 18-years, awaiting a decision. Think about it…
