Think About It: Warrior Pride

When new UH head football coach Nick Rolovich referenced "The Lion King" in his introductory speech last week, it was a breath of fresh air. "We were great once. We can be great again." All UH fans would like to believe that's true, and now Rolovich has been handed the opportunity to make it happen.

For UH to at least be competitive in its very mediocre conference, it needs attitude, talent, coordination, communication, heart, soul, and a whole bevy of things that need to come together under the Rolovich regime in the next couple of years. This can't be a five-year plan, as current finances won't allow a slow build or more disappointment. However, expecting miracles in year #1, well, that happened once before and while it would be great to see Rolovich score in year #1 as his mentor June Jones did 16 years ago, that's a lofty goal in a new world.

But back to "The Lion King" as we are now seeing the local football version of the circle of life, with a young leader ready to come back to his adopted home to take on a big challenge and lead a hopefully resurgent team and instill pride with renewed support from boosters, the university, legislators, and fans alike. Not the need-to-get-a-life, on-line, so-called fans/doubters, but fans who actually attend games and buy merchandise. Being Simba won't be simple, but rebuilding Warriors is a job Rolovich appears ready for. Think about it…
