Think About It: Legislative Blues

About a week ago I noticed a couple of letters to the editor that struck a nerve. One concerned these fact that many people simply "…do not trust the actions of the Legislature any longer". The letter talked about lobbyists and special interest groups and talked about how the "…modern legislative process appears as a veneer covering a rotten core".

Another letter that same day talked about driverless cars and the need for planners to wake up and "stop making long-term plans for 20th century technology ‘solutions'". It could have been a hint about rail when the disgruntled writer said "…what are the planners in the … metro region doing?"  But you see, this letter and the previous letter were not written locally. These reader editorials actually came from The Oregonian in Portland.

For you see, we didn't corner the market on intransigence, lack of vision and lack of change; we're not the only place looking for solutions from passive career politicians. It's one thing that's not unique to our island way of life. Concern and disgruntlement run rampant when it comes to government operations. Have you see the latest Congressional approval ratings? They were at about 13% positive last year. Our political systems, both here and elsewhere, local and federal, cry out for change, dynamic leadership, and a vision of accomplishment, not status quo or re-election. It's now 2016- do you think anyone's listening? Do you think the time has come for strides to be made? Think about it…
