Think About It: Bright None @ Blue Note

The Blue Note Hawai`i jazz club opened last week at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, and I found it to be a great venue to spend an evening transfixed by quality music and good food. I was fortunate enough to see the Rebirth Brass Band and then Kenny G. last week, and I can tell you that we have lucked out with a venue that, hopefully, will be around for a long time. The room seats about 300 in a comfortable setting, and it's nice to be able to watch standout performances without the intrusion of moronic cell phone picture takers, yapping ignorati, or drink-spilling man-children like we find at far too many concerts nowadays.

Scheduled shows this winter at Blue Note Hawaii include well-known acts like Earl Klugh, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and John Scofield, along with youthful guitar virtuoso Joe Robinson- that kid is unreal. Local entertainers will also grace the Blue Note stage here in the months and years ahead. No, I'm not a paid spokesperson, but I am a music fanatic, and any time we get the opportunity to watch and hear live performances from some of the greats in the music world in a setting where it's easy to focus, well that's surely a reason to celebrate.

You might not venture into Waikiki much, if at all. But this showcase of musical talent has rarely graced our shores on a consistent basis, so do check out the list of upcoming concerts and consider enjoying an intimate night up close with some stellar music. For music can soothe, stir, or even re-ignite one's soul, provide a bit of an escape, and we all need a bit of that now and then, don't we? Think about it…
