Think About It: Football Faith

"Hope springs eternal" is a proverb often quoted from Alexander Pope's "An Essay on Man" poem. Well, when it comes to the 2016 University of Hawaii football team, springs hopes are eternal, we hope, as we look forward to seeing numerous gains and inroads made this spring translate into a more competitive UH squad come the fall.

Head Coach Nick Rolovich is the new sheriff in town, and while improvement is something you always look to see in teams trying to move forward, the name of the game in sports far too often is simply wins and losses. After the last four seasons and just 11 wins in 50 games, the football faithful have grown restless to the point where some are not that faithful any more, which is a shame, but is something that can be addressed through improved performance and renewed excitement that one hopes will be a hallmark of the new staff and recruits.

A tough non-conference schedule that include a trip to Australia to meet the Cal Bears, a trip to Michigan and a battle with the PAC-12's Arizona Wildcats means that games against UH's weaker Mountain West brethren and a couple of other non-conference games are where UH can demonstrate that it's back, if not completely in the saddle, than certainly at least getting on the horse and heading in the right direction. So here's to a healthy spring session, a plethora of solid freshman recruits come August, and better times for the Warriors and their fans this fall. Think about it…
