Think About It: Summer Preview

It's time for summer movie mania, and thus we take a moment to reflect on summer titles and how they might relate to Hawaii or national items, in title only, of course. "High Rise", the story of the Hawaii state bird- the construction crane- as it rises above to help put yet one more million dollar apartment building in the Kaka'ako corridor. "The Lobster", a tourist or malahini completely ignores sound advice to apply SPF 50 sunscreen and pays the dire consequences.

In June we'll see "Independence Day: Resurgence" which is an appropriate name for the circus we'll see coming out of the national political conventions with barbs galore and many people piling out of the clown cars. Our nation's forefathers would go back to the drawing board if they saw the gaffes, goofs, gas, and garish glares emanating from our nation's capital these days.  "Ice Age: Collision Course" this flick, of course, tells the story of how long it will be before a decision will apparently be made on the fate of the Haiku stairway to heaven and the Waikiki Natatorium.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows"- this warm, family flick explores the lives of 13-19 year olds in Hawaii who finally took time away from their indoor video games and cell phones to notice the sun, moon, ocean and mountains actually exist here in paradise. And finally, the August tale called "Don't Breathe", about how to survive the summer months in public schools in hawaii- ah, but that one is chaning, thankfully. Think about it…
