Think About It: Poll Whoa

The good news is that football games aren't played in polls or on paper. UH is picked to finish last in its Mountain West division by the media. Yes, the Warriors have won just 8 of their past 38 games played over three seasons. Yes, there is a whole new management team and a bunch of new faces that need to quickly get on the same page. And yes, early games in Australia (vs. Cal), at Michigan, and at Arizona make the first 21-days of new head coach Nick Rolovich's schedule look like something out of a Stephen King novel.

But that's only chapter one. This tale will evolve over time. And the best thing we all can do is get behind these kids and these coaches now and show that UH is still Hawaii's team, that we believe in the program and the university, and that we believe the Warriors will play hard to the final whistle and learn and grow as the season progresses. A lot of us attended college and were a bit bewildered with certain classes in the early days. But we matured, worked hard and figure it out, ending up with a decent grade by the end of the year.

And certainly in a Mountain West division with many winnable games, perhaps other than a tough San Diego State team, Hawaii could make some noise later in the season if it can stay healthy and put the pieces in place by October. And just maybe it can eke out an early season win. Of course, looking at the schedule simply means looking at the way things seem on paper, and what really matters inevitably is what goes on between the sidelines- doesn't it? Go ‘Bows! Think about it…
