Think About It: NC Hey Hey!

If it seems like it took forever, that's because in basketball preparation terms and probable angst, it DID take forever. But in its infinite wisdom, the powers that be atop the NCAA and the infractions faction of that austere group, which had apparently jumped the gun when it did a mea culpa publicly about UH sanctions four months ago before checking with the top dogs, have finally decided to let the kids play. Other sanctions were also shaved back, included probationary window for the basketball squad and its scholarship availabilities.

The change was made, according to the NCAA, because the NCAA changed the penalty structure against UH from a Level II- Aggravated case to a Level II- Standard case. The NCAA stated last Friday that: "…the current penalty structure was found to be more lenient due to the change in case classification. Therefore the panel reduced the scholarship penalty and probation and eliminated the post-season ban."

That wording almost makes the NCAA look like angels who have now suddenly deemed UH to be somewhat OK, when in fact, the NCAA went too far in the first place in its sanctions, but at least it now has righted the wrongs, perhaps realizing that the so-called adults who ran the men's basketball program a couple of years back arrogantly overstepped their bounds, and then supposedly lied about it when officially questioned. Now, let's play ball in the Big West tourney; good on these kids who came together from afar with few expectations this season and have been competitive week in and week out in 2017. Go ‘Bows! Think about it…
