Think About It: Lead Head

Hindsight is 20/20 they say. And so it is that people are commenting that perhaps a Hawaiian Airlines plane did not need to turn around when an unhappy passenger made a snide comment last week. Well, it turns out it was probably just an offhanded comment, but what if it had been more? These same second-guessers would be chastising the pilot and crew for not having acted.

And then there's the quickly-resolved safety issue from a local dairy, which took care of an equipment issue to ensure that low fat milk was back on the shelves quickly after being pulled, though the milk in question really posed no safety hazard. Better safe than sorry sure makes sense here, too.

So what now will be done about the increases in child lead levels that the Department of Health is reporting? Studies and questions related to lead levels here have existed for years. Old paint? Catchment systems in rural areas? We need answers, more thorough testing, better education in rural areas, and we need more experts to assess this situation now. While this spike is no Flint, Michigan, complete governmental breakdown, let's get the lead out and start moving to answer the obvious concerns and persistent about this poisonous element. With funding and a laser-like approach, someone now needs to take the lead ("leed") on lead ("led") in rapid order. Think about it…
