Think About It: Hangar Hang-Up

The hang up over the handling of the hangar at the HonoluluAirport is surely symptomatic of the incredible lethargy and lack of effortwe've seen over at least the past decade in getting our international airportup to modern day standards. After all, the airport is the first and last thingvisitors and locals see when they leave or arrive in Honolulu.

We have often lamented here the horrid state of thebathrooms, walkways, and the dim lighting in areas, along with a lack of air atsome TSA checkpoints, orange cones and yellow tape strewn everywhere forvarious items in various states of disrepair, along with non-working drinkingfountains, confusing signs askew, and a general sense that while the employeesmight be helpful and friendly, the facility is foreboding and cold.

And now we have litigation because of a hangar job thatisn't getting done amid allegations of work not being performed and paymentsnot being made. And this lack of a new hangar is having a gigantic dominoeffect, preventing other projects from taking place at Honolulu InternationalAirport, including the movement of airlines and other much needed maintenanceand hygiene items to help spruce up this dilapidated facility. The hangar issueneeds answers, not simply hangers-on to send it back to committees or thecourts. Think about it…
