Think About It: Political Wrangling

The legislature is off and running with an added sense of intrigue this year as we have what's shaping up to be an interesting governor's race coming up in August's primary election. And while much early talk has  centered around a failed emergency system notification, there are surely dozens of major bills and ideas that will be passed around over the next few months that will have major implications for all of us in a profound way. Stay in touch, let your voice be heard; after all, the legislators work for you and I, and we do decide if they remain employed every election year. The legislative session is a report card to reflect on this summer.

Hopefully, the early success in getting the Kahuiki Village off of Nimitz Highway built so quickly with a public-private partnership can help to spur more talk about relieving some of the homelessness issues and perhaps creating an opportunity to provide truly affordable housing solutions to those looking to buy who have been priced out with the million dollar units that have flooded the Honolulu market over the past five years.

Maybe some of the burning issues on sovereignty, taxes, environmental care, the elderly needs, long-term housing issues and many more that have been pushed along, brought up annually, and then simply seem to evaporate after discussions go nowhere can finally see resolution and action. Stay involved and stay tuned, let your voice be heard, and keep notes to help you when you vote this summer. Think about it…
