HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police say a 35-year-old Honolulu man was killed Tuesday morning while crossing Ala Moana Boulevard at the Piikoi Street intersection.

According to HPD, the fatal crash happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday when the pedestrian, who has not been identified, was crossing from the mauka to the makai sidewalk of Ala Moana near the shopping center.

Police say he was hit by a 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup truck that was traveling toward Waikiki on Ala Moana Boulevard.

“We do believe that the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk at the time. We don't believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor on the part of the driver and we're still investigating whether speed was a factor on the part of the driver,” said Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division Lt. Ben Moszkowicz.

At this time, police have not identified the 58-year-old driver, and he has not been charged with anything.

Emergency Medical Services officials say they rushed the pedestrian in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center, where he later died.

Police say this is the seventh fatal motor vehicle collision of 2018 compared to only three at this same time last year, but HPD Traffic Division officers say this is their second pedestrian fatality in a row.

Ala Moana Boulevard at Piikoi Street was temporarily shut down, but it has since reopened now that the medical examiner and traffic investigators have cleared the scene.
