MILILANI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A man has been arrested following a police standoff in Mililani early Monday morning.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Waikalani Place.

Police say the man was wanted on felony abuse charges after he choked a woman in front of their one-year-old son around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The woman somehow got out without suffering any serious injuries.

The man then barricaded himself in the unit with his son.

The standoff drew a large police presence, including the SWAT team.

A police negotiator also had to be called.

Authorities say around 3 a.m. Monday, the man released the boy and surrendered to police.

The child was not hurt.

The suspect has not been identified.
